Railway Safety, with the help of Competence Assurance Solutions Ltd (CAS), is continuing its work to develop guidance and tools to help companies assess and develop the abilities of top teams and individual managers in the area of safety management.
Good Practice Guides
Two good practice guides have been published:
- Competence in strategic safety management (SSM): Assessing and developing senior management teams
- Reviewing and developing the safety performance (SPR) of individual manager
These guides provide practical approaches to integrating safety management in wider business management processes. They have been produced following extensive research, consultation and pilot schemes with various railway businesses. They are aimed specifically at helping Railway Group Members (and their principal suppliers) deliver Railway Safety Case commitments.
Railway Safety good practice guides are advisory and it is the responsibility of individual companies to apply them in ways which meet their needs.
