Railway Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS)

What is it?

RISAS is a cross-industry scheme which provides transferable assurance of the quality of the suppliers of safety critical products and services for rolling stock overhaul.

It provides a third party assessment process covering the shop floor attitudes as well as the processes of suppliers.

It is managed, on behalf of the industry by a Board with senior cross-industry representation.

How does it work?

Instead of each stakeholder auditing each supplier separately:

  • The Accreditation Agency accredits an Approval Body
  • The Approval Body certifies the supplier for a specific scope
  • All Stakeholders can accept certification of the supplier for that scope
Who pays?

The Supplier pays the Approval Body for assessment

The Approval Body pays the Accreditation Agency (RSSB) for accreditation

RSSB pays for administration costs of scheme

Why should I join it?

Stakeholder:

  • Assurance without need for individual audits
  • Accountability through RSSB support
  • Scheme supported by ORR

Supplier:

  • Reduces audit burden
  • One robust assessment saves money in the longer term

Certified suppliers are listed on the RISAS website www.risas.org.uk, along with further information on the scheme, details of product groups and the Approval Bodies.
The RISAS website is also managed by RSSB and any queries can be addressed to Andy Tandy – National Programmes, Schemes Administrator on 020 7904 7676 or by email at: risas.admin@rssb.co.uk
