Expertise to the Industry

Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) provides both technical expertise and organisational skills to support the industry with its standards, in particular this involves the delivery of standards that are under the management of RSSB and for supporting the industry’s input into the development of relevant European standards, including technical specifications for interoperability (TSIs).

In addition RSSB provides technical expertise and administration support to a number of industry groups, including Standards Committees, Mirror Groups and System Interface Committees. This expertise also provides vital input to support decisions on safety strategy and the UK rail industry’s research and development programme.

RSSB provides technical expertise to the rail industry in the following areas:

• Infrastructure (traditionally referred to as Track, Structures and Stations)
• Rolling stock
• Plant
• Control Command and Signalling (traditionally referred to as Train Control, Signalling and Communications)
• Energy (traditionally referred to as Electrification)
• Traffic Operation and Management
• Human Factors
